Description
Winchester Model 1873 First Model octagon rifle, serial #13217, chambered in .44-40 with a 24-inch barrel and set trigger. The receiver retains 20% traces of original blue, with the balance covered in plum and patina. The original depressed thumbprint dust cover fits well but is described as a little loose. The barrel has light plum patina, with some gray showing through ahead of the forearm. The barrel address and upper tang markings are strong and original, and the sights are original Model 1873-style rifle sights. The wood is described as very good with no splits or cracks, a good wood-to-metal fit, and no problems noted with the fit. The supplied description reports that the set trigger works perfectly and rates the bore 8.5, with strong rifling and a good shine. It also identifies the rifle as an antique and notes a Cody letter; the supplied Cody records document is pictured in the gallery.
