Description
Winchester Model 1873 First Model octagon rifle, serial #20743, manufactured in 1876, chambered in .44-40 with an extra-long 26-inch barrel. The receiver has full coverage of plum patina with 5% blue remaining in protected areas. The original depressed thumbprint dust cover fits and slides nicely. The octagon barrel has full plum patina coverage with flashes of blue between the barrel and magazine tube. The front sight is a period replacement, and the rear sight is an early First Model rifle sight. The wood is described as well above average with a nice fit, a couple of gouges and scratches, and small repairs on the forearm. The buttstock fits nicely and has no cracks, splits, or repairs. The barrel address and upper tang markings are original and strong. The supplied description rates the bore a strong 8.5, with strong rifling and a nice shine, and identifies the rifle as an antique with a Cody letter.
